Baby Addie’s Rocking Chair

Oh, I love this little chair for so many reasons! First of all, baby Addie-Adelle Josephine Russell- sits with her back to us on the main scene on the seat of the chair! This image is adapted from a beautiful picture that her photographer mommy took of her. (you can see Sandy’s amazing photos on her site here: http://summerlandphotography.com/ )The little pink dress, the bonnet with the ruffles-too adorable to stand! Then the little bunny stuffed animal that she is holding-this is taken from a gorgeous quilt that Addie’s grandmother (mommy’s mother) made for her! As are the little flower designs along the chair arms, seat rim, runners and the top of the chair seat back.

Also pictured with Addie are the two family cats-Quill, the long haired orange cat, and Lilly the grey, black and white tabby, as well as the family dog Colt.  There are several birds in the scene, lots of flowers, and an owl in one of the trees.  If you look closely you can see Addie’s full name “hidden” in the tree’s leaves on the left and her birthdate hidden in the tree on the right.

On the scene above on the seat chair back you see two “real” bunnies (I’m imagining that Addie loved her play bunny so much that it became real just like in the Velveteen Rabbit!), one bunny is meant to be Addie and the other is meant to be her big brother Mason-see how he is bringing her flowers? Oh, big brothers! This scene shows a dusky pinkish sky with a red fox sneaking a peak through the bushes of flowers. Hiding in the grass and flowers are a couple of field mice and in the trees are more birdies and another owl.

It was such a treat to do such a fun rocking chair for little Addie!  I can’t wait to see the fun pictures her mommy gets of her enjoying her special rocker!

Hampton with his Piano and Hadley with her Dollhouse/Bookcase

I love being able to see little Hampton and baby Hadley enjoying their fun Coffey Creations! Thank you mommy Adrea so much for sharing your photos with me!

If you look really closely you can see Hampton’s quilt draped over the corner of the bed with a camel showing! Similar to the camel on his piano! He also has an awesome wall hanging behind the head of his bed that goes with his bedding. This little piano was made to coordinate with Hampton’s room colors and bedding, but it also includes his ABC’s and lots more animals for him to find and have fun with! To see Hampton’s mini piano in more detail click here.

Hadley’s dollhouse/bookcase is full of lots of fun things to find as well. There are lots of fun scenes from several classic children’s stories. I am imagining the fun mommy Adrea will have reading these stories to little Hadley and then showing  her the scenes in her own dollhouse! Hadley’s dollhouse/bookcase also has a replica of her very own nursery in the top left room. The replica includes her crib, bedding, photos in frames on the walls, her special Coffey Creations tree and animal playset, her birdie on a branch shelving, and lots more! To see all of the rooms in more detail, or to see  if you can locate all of the special scenes in Hadley’s doll house, click here. The scenes are from the following children’s stories: Where the Wild Things Are, Madeline in Paris, Lyle Lyle Crocodile, The Princess and the Pea, Eloise in Paris, and Red Riding Hood.

Sam’s Stepstool-Artwork by David!

This fun bright stepstool is unique in many ways-first and foremost the artistry is done by my 6 year old David! He drew Uncle Mel and Aunt Kathy “dreaming” of having a little boy on one side of the step stool, and on the other side he drew Uncle Mel, and Aunt Kathy with little Sam himself! Also on the step stool are a variety of trees, birds, mushrooms, a sun, a rainbow, and their house-all drawn by David himself! Mommy (that’s me) was mainly the colorist-I painted David’s drawings and even consulted him on whether or not to add stripes and dots to the brightly colored color blocked areas. Aunt Kathy wanted bright fun colors for Sam’s step stool-I think we have accomplished that for her!

The steps of the step stool were left mainly solid colors to allow for good visibility of adding in Sam’s actual footprints! Kathy liked the double wide step stool that we made for ourselves with my boys footprints-and both cats paw prints as well! Click here to see our step stool, and here to see little baby Natalie’s Mad about Madeline one as well!

For your own hand painted custom children and babies items e-mail me at shannon@coffeycreationsforkids.com or check out my Etsy shop. I can reproduce your own child’s artwork onto a step stool, or pick a theme and colors and let me do it for you. The options are endless!

Dollhouse/Bookcase for Hadley

This dollhouse/bookcase for Hadley was so much fun to paint! The top left bedroom is a replica of her actual nursery-I also included the dollhouse! Several of the rooms have paintings from classic children’s story books-can you find them? From Little Red Riding Hood, the Princess and the Pea, Where the Wild Things Are, and many others! What fun it was to create each room and add the little nick knacks. Hadley’s room theme is pinks and greens with little birdies, you can see those themes repeated throughout the entire doll house. The chandelier in the bathroom even has little birdies on it! Look out the hand painted windows in the house-do you spy any birds? Squirrels? Don’t forget to check out the address (plus 1/2), too!

I can imagine the fun baby Hadley will have exploring this dollhouse as she grows!

Check out the replica of baby Hadley’s actual room-from her hand made wooden tree playset, birdie on a branch shelving, custom birth canvas, to her sweet birdie mobile, and lots more! Click on this link to view her custom items, then click on the one that you want to view!

Mini Animal ABC Piano for Hampton

This little mini piano is a true gem. The sound of the keys remind me of church bells-they just sound wonderful! It is a Jaymar toy piano made probably in the 1950′s. I sanded, primed and painted this piano a soft sand/khaki color and a cream/off white to coordinate with Hampton’s room colors. Hampton has Itsazoo bedding so all different types of animals fit perfectly with his room theme! You may note the little blond haired blue eyed girl and boy riding atop the elephant? That’s Hampton and his little sister! Hampton is three now so learning the alphabet is right around the corner-what a fun way to do it and explore all of the animals on his piano as well.

From P’s and Peacocks, to E’s, Eagles and Elephants, this mini piano is hand painted with lots of fun things to find. Have fun Hampton!

Sophia’s mini Grand Piano

This little baby mini grand piano is the perfect size for baby Sophia! I stripped, then primed and painted this little antique piano a perfect baby ballet pink then hand painted a beautiful scrolled circle accented with white dots around her dotted French script monogram. I also restored and painted the piano’s keys. This piano is the perfect size for a child up to at least several years old to play with, then the perfect size to use as decor in an older child’s room-or even a newborn’s nursery. This little piano is a perfect keepsake that she will cherish forever!

Fun Canvases

These canvases all have personalization of some sort. I love being able to make a canvas unusual and personalize it in some way for it’s recipient.

The first canvas is Grandma and Grandpa’s house in Florida. With the central feature being the new fountain that Grandpa put in all by himself! Making the fountain the center focus made the painting of the house seem a bit more whimsical as you see most of the house as the background, not the central focus.  This painting was done by “morphing” two photos together.

The second painting shows off Virginia and TJ scaling the double black diamond trail “True Grit”! Whew! I know I would have gone down the “No Grit” one myself. This painting was done by morphing three different photos together and using a bit of imagination to incorporate both kids on the same trail in different locations. I envisioned Virginia swooshing back and forth down the trail with TJ ahead a bit and launching himself off of the snow ramp into the air!

The third painting was a request from Lori for sunflowers.  Hidden inside each of the flowers is a different name-Elizabeth and Elijah, her twins, and Joshua, her oldest child. The middle two larger sunflowers are for herself-Lori, and her husband Brad. I loved the quote from Helen Keller, and found it a perfect fit for this canvas.

Mini Piano for Ashlynn Rayne

This little Jaymar children’s piano is adorable and in perfect working condition. The piano was painted a pale yellow and accented with all of her mommy’s favorite flowers-sunflowers, blue bells, snapdragons, and tulips! Mommy wanted lots of fun butterflies, insects, frogs and more on the piano for Ashlynn to find. Mommy also had a special quote for the top of the piano and a special prayer for baby Ashlynn on the back. What a lucky little baby to be so loved!

I also created a fun “I Spy” poem for Ashlynn and her Mommy. Here it is:

For Ashlynn Rayne Brokaw…

See if you can find….

A snail warming in the morning sun,

Of them you will find only one!

Snapdragons of pink and blue,

Of those, you can count way more than two!

Lots of little red ladybugs,

Let’s count them-1,2,3!

Mommy had this piano made

Especially for me!

Black and yellow Bumble bees, 1,2,3,4….

A grasshopper, a frog, a dragonfly, and more!

A caterpillar-with lots of legs-more than five!

Little Ashlynn, what else can you find?

A little faerie under a bloom,

A caterpillar inside a cocoon.

So many things you can count-6,7,8,9,10,

Go back to the beginning and do it all again!

Merry Christmas from your Mommy! 2011

Thank you so much Lindsey for being so great to work with! Have a great Christmas with your little sweetie! I hope she has lots of fun with her piano!!!

Game table for kids

This kid table top had been scratched, gauged, basically ruined. The disappointing thing is that apparently it wasn’t solid wood. For a pretty expensive table from Land of Nod, I was pretty disappointed to find that out. I loved the table because it has a storage area underneath, but ever since we’d gotten the table it kept coming apart. I was resolved to fix the whole thing! My kids use it all the time-many times a day. And, I wanted to make it even more fun!

I tried sanding it, priming and repainting it and you could still see the large scratches in it. I was also concerned that even if the scratches were only visible by looking at an angle that they would get wet and would swell up since the table wasn’t made of real wood. It’s a kids table for goodness sakes! I want them to be able to play on it not worry too much about it, you know?

Well, after exploring many options I finally found the one that seemed to fit our needs. I bought a ready made table top from Lowes. It was solid wood, perfectly round, and even stainable. It only cost 30$ and if the kids scratch this one up I figured I could sand it, strip it, whatever I wanted to do later on. I decided to paint a checkerboard pattern ont the top of the table to play games on-checkers, eventually chess, made up games-whatever. I picked cream, a medium sand color and a darker khaki or tan. I made the edges the darker color-hopefully hiding fingerprints, etc. Then I found this stuff by Rustoleum-it says Maximum scratch resistance, it’s basically a spray on polyurethane. It didn’t dry nearly as quickly as I would have liked it to, but it seems to be holding up really well so far!

We’ve played checkers with lego blocks, chess, made patterns with shaped wood pieces, used the bucky balls, the kids have used their crayons, pencils and markers for drawing on it, and even eaten countless meals on it. So far, so good!

I attached the table top to the existing one by predrilling some holes-not all the way through, of course! Then attaching them with wood screws. I also used small metal braces to secure the legs of the table to the middle wood pieces all the way around so the table will actually stay together. All in all, this table is now meant to last! It is a lot heavier and sturdier-perfect for my three boys!

You could even make your own sturdy kid table by checking out the supplies at Lowes-they have the table tops and all different sizes of legs! Or take a small regular table and cut the legs down a bit. It’s something your kids will use again and again.

Want a play table created and painted just for your little ones? Maybe you have the idea but aren’t sure how to do it? I’d be happy to help or make it for you! Contact me at shannon@coffeycreationsforkids.com

Sneak Peek!

Here is a sneak peak of a couple of completed projects for this Christmas! Can’t show you the whole piano or the little guy’s name will show-don’t want to ruin a surprise!!!!!! Check back for updates on these and more projects later!

The piano is a Jaymar brand piano made in the 1950′s, it is in beautiful working condition and the keys sound like little bells. It is truly a remarkable little piano! This little boy has his ABC’s done in animals all over his very own personalized piano. Some letters have more than one animal, some items you can count-jellyfish?! And riding in the seat atop the elephant are a little boy and his sister-a rendition of the little owner to be and his sister!

The mini rocking chair is the perfect size for an American Girl Doll! And, for goodness sakes, she must have a personalized cushion as well! The chair has several “hiding” ladybugs and bumblebees. This chair is personalized with the little girl’s monogram-as is the cushion. The cushion is attached to the chair with coordinating pink gross grain ribbon ties.
