Silk Ribbon Flower Mini Blanket

I LOVE silk ribbon embroidery! And what could be prettier and more feminine than silk ribbon flowers?! What fun it was to make this blanket-silk ribbon flowers frame the blanket’s edges in hot pink, a darker hot pink, a warm soft pink and a pretty lilac. Regular embroidery floss is used to make the stems (in a wrapped dotted line stitch), make the center french knots of the lilac colored flowers and to frame the center of the blanket. This blanket is intended to be personalized with a little girls monogram or name in it’s center. The front of the mini blanket is a soft white cotton and the back is a hot pink smooth satin.  This hand made silk embroidered mini blanket retails for 75$. To purchase this item e-mail me at shannon@coffeycreationsforkids.com or purchase it at my Etsy shop. This item also comes with a personalized gift card, so don’t forget to send your personalization information as well! Of course, I can envision a personalized coordinating canvas, a dress, a bib, a personalized box, so many fun things could be made to coordinate with this item!

Orange and white kitty cat/blanket/bib/dress and onesie

I love this fun orange and white stripey print! This little girl dress (sun dress for summer or pair it with the cute onesie for fun fall wear!) was made out of a repurposed men’s shirt. Talk about fun “Green” wear! The dress front shows off a bit of lace with an adjustable orange gross grain ribbon tie. The back has the original “button down” portion of the mens shirt with a slightly longer back. The Carter’s onesie has matching orange french knots along the neckline and cuffs. The onesie is a size 18-24 months, the sundress can fit up to 2T or be used as a swing halter top up to a 3T size.

The matching Orange Kitty has green french knot eyes with orange outlines and an orange straight stitched and back stitched nose and mouth.

The Orange Kitty Mini Blanket has a kitty appliqued in the center with hand embroidered accents. The kitty is placed on a soft white cotton and framed in the orange stripey material, then framed again with an outer border of white accented with white french knots for added texture.

The Orange Kitty Bib has an applique to coordinate with all of the above! The mini blanket and bib are meant to personalized with your child’s monogram or first name.  Sorry, the little dress, onesie, and hairband from this set have sold! The mini blanket, orange and white kitty, and bib are still available-and actually my favorite of the whole set!  You can email me at shannon@coffeycreationsforkids.com to purchase this product or stop by the Gifted Hands store in Wexford, PA.

Pink and Brown-Elephants?!

Look at baby Emerson in her personalized bib (and in her Bumbo chair no less!)! She is just too darn cute! Thanks so much for sharing your photos with me, Neely! I love to see little Emerson in her Coffey Creation!

This baby gift set includes three hand made personalized baby bibs, a coordinating box, notecard and original canvas.

The canvas was done to match baby Emerson’s pink and brown bedding from Restoration Hardware. Baby Emerson has a soft pink and brown elephant mobile in her crib and that’s what inspired this canvas! In the canvas a mommy and baby elephant are holding trunks as they are give each other a flower. The elephants stand on a field of flowers that has the baby’s birth information “hidden” in it. The canvas is done in rich browns and many shades of pink to coordinate with the baby’s room.

Three bibs are done in stripes, dots, and a soft pink and all have personalized hand embroidered stitching. These fabrics were picked to coordinate with the baby’s bedding and room colors also. The multi colored dotted bib has “Emerson” hand embroidered in a wrapped back stitch, the striped fabric has the letter “E” done in a multitude of french knots, and the soft pink bib has baby Emerson’s monogram done in a stem stitch.

The coordinating box makes use of soft pink and brown card stock with hand embroidered  dark brown french knots on the warm pink card stock for added flair. The fun font (Gigi on MS Word) shows off Emerson’s full name on the keepsake box.

Emerson’s monogrammed personalized note card is done with a soft pink satin ribbon wrapped in a stripey effect on dark brown card stock. Emerson’s monogram is done in a warm brown and set on start white card stock in the card’s center.

The fun thing about all of these baby items is that they are useful (fancy bibs-can’t the bib be just as sweet as the dress?!), and can serve more than one purpose (the box makes a beautiful gift presentation and then can be displayed in the baby’s room and used to keep all those precious little keepsakes in!), and the card with the givers best wishes presents another wall art opportunity (or scrapbook addition!). The fact that the baby’s birth information is slightly “hidden” allows for the growth of the baby into a child who will still love that she has personalized artwork with her name on it-but doesn’t feel that it’s too “babyish” because the baby information is not too obvious.

Capturing the moment!

I do have the cutest little boys in the whole world, you know. Okay, I might be a little bit biased, but they ARE mine! If you look very closely you will see that little Leonard has a messy face-but I know my little guy and if  had said-here let mommy clean your face, he would have hopped down off the chair and run away as fast as those little legs would carry him! The first photo shows my fun note card of my littlest guy. Who doesn’t love getting letters? And hand made personalized ones?!!

I have seriously dabbled in photography for many years and have always had trouble with red eye, lighting, and camera speed. Here are a few things that I’ve figured out through trial and error, and I must share for all you moms (or anyone out there taking photos of children!!) because nothing brings a bigger smile to my face than seeing photos of my little guys!

Red Eye: The red eye I finally figured out you could get rid of by using natural lighting or a flash that you can attach to your camera. The point and shoots or even the nicer cameras (SLR) with the attached flash almost always give you red eye-the flash is just too close to the camera lens. You don’t need a big fancy one, just one that is higher up than your attached one-Ritz makes a nice one for about 100$, it’s also small and easy to take on and off.

Camera speed: Unfortunately you just have to get a camera that actually takes the picture when you press the button-or you’ve lost the picture! You can take off the red eye setting and use natural lighting to lessen the delay somewhat, but then you’re limited to hoping for good lighting and not getting a blurry photo.

Lighting-This has been my latest major breakthrough! I’ve always preferred natural lighting and an attached flash (using the flash pointing up or to the side to bounce the light off of a wall or ceiling to diffuse the harsh flash light). The colors are just so much prettier- you don’t have the shadows and you can actually see the colors and things around your subject. But then I’ve been dependent on the weather-taking photos inside near a big window or door, or outside in cloudy conditions or overcast really make for the best shots (where you can actually see the color of your subjects eyes).

However, I’ve just recently discovered this Light Sphere thing- I can’t believe how well it works. It’s actually a flash diffuser-so the flash doesn’t give the harsh shadows and the colors are much more natural. Now I can take photos anywhere and not worry about the lighting at all-honestly it’s unbelievable to me. For years, I’ve struggled with this! Check it out at garyfong.com, this guy is a genius, I tell you! He even has tutorials on his site to tell you exactly how to use it, and photos to show you the difference with the flash, without, and with the Light Sphere. They also have a small one to use with point and shoots, but I haven’t tried that one out yet.

Anyway, that’s about it for now. Keep checking back to see what else I’ve discovered-I’ll be sure to share it! And e-mail me at shannon@coffeycreationsforkids.com for your own custom made children’s items!

Baby Boy Notecards/Gift Box

I love the simple circles, squares and rectangles that go together to make these cards fun! These notecards were made to coordinate with baby Hampton’s Baptism Invitation. The circle theme was continued and added upon with multi colored brown ribbons to enhance the sand and white colored cardstock. Depth is achieved by using mounting tape to create multiple layers on each card. The coordinating gift box will be great for keepsakes- and makes a beautiful presentation for the notecards. These notecards have specialty paper, satin ribbon, and french knot embroidery accents.
