Princess Bed Canopy

So, funny story, well, frustrating really, the reason I have extra pictures of this canopy is because I tried to do my own photo shoot of it out in the forest…Well, once again, a painful reminder that I am not a professional photographer! I love photography-I think I have an “eye”-but I am definitely technically challenged! After realizing that I had not taken into account the weather-the wind was blowing so much that the ideal spot just didn’t work, and another gorgeous spot had snow dripping all over the place and would have soaked the canopy and ruined the picture. Seriously, I lost a pair of scissors, because of that couldn’t cut my twine the way I wanted-so it was wrapped up all over the place, and generally was pretty frustrated.  But, I finally found a “good enough” spot and was lucky to get a few good pics of it at least. See what you think! And here is a little more information on the canopy itself:

This canopy is definitely fit for a little princess! I worked with mom to create the perfect castle canopy for her little sweetie. Lauren’s first initial is hand embroidered in pink silk ribbon on the front center of the castle. Lauren loves butterflies so I put butterflies here and there all over the canopy-and even through the tulle front panel that was made to hang over her full sized bed.

The castle has scroll designs along each panel-a beautiful pearly white cording brings out these scroll designs perfectly. Jewels are also positioned throughout the canopy’s castle to add even more girliness to it!

The 4 panels can be tied back with a gorgeous chevron pink and white ribbon, or the front two tied, or all left untied to totally enclose the castle-depending on the princess’s whim of the moment. One of the panels has a secret pocket on the inside for Mommy or Daddy to leave a special note to their little princess-or maybe for Lauren to put in a special small book or stuffed animal.

Castle Princess Bed Canopy with Butterflies and Jewels!

What fun I have had working on this Castle Bed Canopy for little Lauren! She has a full sized bed that we got using Laura Ashley voucher codes, so this one is a bit larger and has extra long panels as her room has a very high ceiling. This Castle Bed Canopy has lots of pearly white cording to emphasize the quilting and castle pattern, it also has lots of pink and green jewels to add even more girliness to it! Lauren loves butterflies so they are incorporated through out the jeweled tulle panel that will extend out over top of the length of the bed as well as throughout the entire canopy.

The top of the canopy is done in a rich lime green cording that hangs from a ribbon covered circle to be able to attach to a hook on the ceiling. There are hand strung  jewels draping underneath the green cording to give the canopy an almost chandelierish effect!

The top edge of the canopy is finished off with a lime green and white chevron twill ribbon and the bottom edge of the top panels are finished off with a batting filled braiding of the same tarragon green as the main canopy.

The butterflies are hand cut, painted and even have glitter and glow in the dark paint for added effect for Lauren at night time! There are several little flowers- which may be what are attracting the butterflies to the canopy-interspersed throughout the top part of the canopy.

Four panels drape down from the canopy and can all be tied back, or just a couple depending on Lauren’s whim! They can be tied back with included pink and white chevron ribbon-so pretty!!!

There is also a “secret” pocket in the front panel of the canopy for Lauren’s mommy or daddy-or maybe a fairy?! to leave her occasional surprises or special letters!

This canopy has been a thrill for me to work on and I hope Lauren has lots of fun with it!

This bed canopy was designed and created by me. If you would like your own custom Coffey Creation please contact me at shannon@coffeycreationsforkids.com or check out my etsy shop for my premade items!

Finger Puppet Theater for Lily Sophia

I so loved being able to make this finger puppet stage! I had been wanting to do one for ages when Lily Sophia’s mommy mentioned wanting to do something extra fun for her little girlie’s first birthday! She mentioned how much she loved the Dream Big Little Pig book by Kristi Yamaguchi and I saw the perfect opportunity! Little piggy finger puppets- a mommy, daddy, Poppy pig and other piggies to show all the fun things that Poppy pig tried out while she was dreaming big!

I wanted the puppet theater to resemble the amazing theaters of the past. I made the soft baby pink curtains pleated with lots of draping and finished them off with mini puffballs. The theater itself is trimmed with a lime green satiny rope piping-along the edges and along the inside of the opening of the theater itself.  Jewels adorn the stage along it’s parapets and underneath the opening of the stage (resembling the lighting of the stages of days past). Lily Sophia’s monogram is hand embroidered in a dotted wrapped stitch on the middle front of the stage, and hand embroidery accents the top front of the stage as well as along the scroll designs on the sides.

Now, you can have a great looking puppet theater, but to make it even better, I wanted it to be portable! For a growing little girl, mommy’s love to be able to take things along for their little ones! So, I made lots of pockets for the puppets to go in on the back-with plenty of room to add more finger puppets for Lily Sophia’s growing collection!

The puppet theater is held together by a pretty ribbon tied in a bow, and then is held by a gorgeous chevron striped baby pink and white ribbon handle.

Mishelle, thank you so much again for thinking of me for this great project! I LOVED doing it and hope to get to do more fun puppet theaters in the future! Speaking of which, I’ve finished off two since doing this project! Check back to see my updates as I am slowly trying to catch up!!

Poppy Pig, Mommy and Daddy Piggies, and props for Puppet Theater!

Oh, my, was this ever fun to make for little Lily Sophia! Mommy Mishelle wanted a fabulous first birthday for her little sweetie based on one of her favorite children’s books-Dream Big Little Pig by Kristi Yamaguchi. It is such a sweet book! It’s about a little girlie pig who tries to figure out what she is good at-she finds out lots of things that she is NOT good at, only to finally find that with lots of practice she is really GREAT at ice skating!

Mishelle and I dreamed big-we wanted a fancy puppet theater to coordinate with Lily Sophia’s room that she would be also able to use at her birthday party. Mishelle thought a Mommy and Daddy pig with some fun props would be so much fun to play with and show off at the party. I made  little special piggie finger puppets- complete with wings and curlique tails  for each of Lily Sophia’s party guests (well, the little ones!) and Mishelle got each a copy of the book. Lily got a few extra finger puppets to go with her theater for her birthday-a piggie puppet with wings that were also able to be removed and reattached, a fancy girlie piggie in a hot pink satin dress holding a microphone, a mini easel, a “casual” girlie piggie, and a mommy and a daddy piggie as well.

A large Poppy Pig was a must for little Lily Sophia as well! Check out how Poppy Pig looks just like the character in the book-from her “sequined” bodice to the light purple and hot pink satiny ice skating costume to the hot pink ribbon in her hair!  She even has ice skates that are removeable! Poppy also has some wire inside of her to make her poseable for extra fun!

Yellow Doll/Small Child Chair

This sweet little antique chair was literally in pieces! One of the small dowel shaped rods was broken, and another was missing. The seat was in tatters-unusable. I took the woven seat off, sanded and repaired the rest of the chair, then painted it a soft yellow with some fun floral designs. I love the turquoise, greens, yellows, and a bit of red in the flowers!

Then I decided on a simple woven pattern for the seat. I attached the sides and back with a staple gun for added security, but the sizing of this chair is really more for a large doll or several small ones.

This chair can be personalized for your child for lots of play time fun! Contact me at shannon@coffeycreations for you own custom made items or check out some of my premade items at my etsy shop!

Kitty Mirror and Shelf for Sophia

Little Sophia LOVES kitties! So, when I saw this shelf with the white kitty on it, I knew I had to get it and paint it to coordinate with Sophie’s floral room. Sophie’s Daddy had gotten a good luck Asian cat bank to give her on her first birthday. So, I painted the kitty on the shelf to resemble her special kitty bank from her father.  The flowers are handpainted to coordinate with Sophia’s bedding in her room, with bright pinks, oranges, and lots of greens.

Happy 1st Birthday little Sophia!

Camilla’s Camelia Mobile

This little mobile was made to coordinate with baby Camilla’s bedding and bring in some “camelia’s” the flower which inspired her name! What a little darling she is! Thank you so much Melissa for sharing your fantastic photos!

The camelia flowers were hand made using one of the same fabrics as the bedding. The pale yellow stamens of the flowers are made of a soft cotton yarn.

Doll sized school desk-hand painted

This little treasure of a school desk has wrought iron scrollwork on it’s sides and a nice warm stain on the wood desk top and seat back. I hand painted an autumn scene with a little representation of pooh bear under the tree on the desk top. The seat back shows a limb with fall leaves and a mommy bird standing watch over her nest of eggs, and the front panel of the desk shows a little squirrel guarding his acorns amidst some fallen leaves.

Whatever little dollie gets this special school desk is sure to be spoiled rotten! She even has a little area to store her mini books or supplies.

Happy 1st Birthday Hadley!

Happy 1st Birthday Hadley! Your Lalee and Grandy love you very much!

What a treat it was to restore this vintage toy box. The box had many layers of paint on it and was finally done in a goldish yellow that had obviously been done long ago. This toy box needed a bit of work, I filled in lots of cracks from the wood separating over the years and replaced the hinges on the inside and added a slow release hinge on the side so little Hadley’s fingers don’t get smushed!

I then primed the toy box and hand painted the outside to match the decor of Hadley’s room. (the Serena and Lily Lola Bedding). I painted Hadley’s monogram right in the middle in a fun french font.

The inside lid of the toy box has a special painting also. I painted this to reflect the story on Churchill’s Blue Willow China-a favorite of mine from childhood! A sad starcrossed lovers story, but with beautiful Asian trees and buildings and, of course, the love birds! I did the painting in the same colors as Hadley’s room-in keeping with her room theme-and think the little birdies continue that theme perfectly!

Then, the surprise! I had been wanting to do a little puppet theater for ages! This puppet theater has a wood base and fabric added for the stage curtains and little pockets on the back to store the little finger puppets in. This little stage has hand painting on it and also shows off Hadley’s monogram on either side of the center of the stage itself. The stage is meant to be propped up on the top of the toy box for lots of fun puppet shows and play. When not in use, the puppet theater stores neatly in the bottom of the toy box.

Enjoy, little Hadley!

Delwyn’s Rocking Chair (Doll sized!)

This little doll rocking chair is made for a special little doll-Delwyn. Delwyn’s owner loves all things fall and wanted an autumn inspired chair. Note the fall leaves on the trees, the acorns, a small squirrel and lots of leaves along the ground of the scene on the seat of the chair. The tree also has an owl hiding in it’s branches.

Delwyn’s owner also loves Winnie the Pooh-who doesn’t love that cuddly bear?! So, I incorporated Pooh Bear into the scene and put a bee hive hanging from the tree as well. A bird also flies across the scene toward the tree.

The chair has the leaf/acorn/pooh pattern along the edge of the seat and on the runners of the rocker.

The custom cushion for the chair shows the same scene that is on the seat of the chair with the tree’s leaves done in orange, red, and yellow silk ribbon. Delwyn’s name is done in a dotted wrapped stitch in a dark brown. The cushion is held to the chair with chocolate brown velvet ribbon ties.
