All the fun Orange Kitty items were made from an orange and white striped repurposed men’s shirt! What fun it was turning one men’s shirt into so many girly little items!! My personal favorite, though are the bloomers! Girly bloomers with fun springtime blooms to match the fun dresses! The blooms are made of the orange and white striped shirting material and the stamens are hand embroidered orange and blue (to match the little Polo insignia) french knots, the green stems are done in a stem stitch and the little leaves are done in backstitches. The little ruffly dress shows off the original “Polo” insignia and is approximately a 6-12 month size. It has elastic on the shoulder ruffly straps, the back of the dress and under the arms. The halter dress has a ribbon that can be tied at the back of the neck or on one side or the other in the front (or back for that matter)-the halter used as a dress will fit sizes approximately 12-18 months or as a halter swing top from sizes 2-3T. The back of the halter dress shows off the original buttons of the men’s shirt, and the back of the dress is a bit longer than the front of the dress due to the nature of the Halter dress itself. The orange kitty has hand embroidered eyes, nose and mouth. The matching bib also has hand embroidery accents and velcro dots to allow for a growing little girl! The two coordinating hair bands are both made of elastic bands for stretch and comfort. This collection is one of a kind as I do not use patterns to make my childrens clothing.

This little bear is made of a soft white muslin and has hand embroidered features. The eyes are worked in a straight stitch, the eyebrows are worked in a backstitch as are the ear and paw accents. The little pleated dress is made from one of Claudia’s own daddy’s shirts. What a great keepsake, not to mention snuggly fun! If you haven’t read any of the Skippyjon Jones books-you really should put them on your list! I mean, a naughty siamese cat who likes to pretend that he’s a chiuaua?! They are a riot for adults as well as children. My four year old has fallen in love with Skippyjon and wanted to make him a “King Hat”, pants and a pillow. Talk about a fun way to make reading come to life! David made his own king hat out of scraps of faux leather by taping it onto Skippyjon, he also made a little outfit for him. Unfortunately, he also decided to decorate his own face with markers the same day……Anyway, the next day he wanted to make a real king hat with jewels! So, we cut out a bit of cardboard, fit it to Skippyjon’s head (cut out some wedges for those big ears), and David glued on jewels and glitter. Mommy made the pants and the pillow with some scraps of material and, of course, personalized the pillow for Skippy. Next, the Skippyjon bed-with a mattress and his own special blankie. (In the book he gets wrapped up as a burrito in his little white blankie!) The bed is fashioned out of cardboard and spray painted a dark brown and has a secret compartment underneath to hide secret stuff in! Then, of course, we had to make Skippy his very own house. We named it Le Casa Purrito (from the book where the chiuaua’s carried the “Purrito” all the way back to his room!), and painted it in fun green colors to match his cape. Skippy’s cardboard house has two balconies, a lot of windows, a door with his very own doorknob, and even a little doghouse up on the roof. The roof has a “skylight” to allow my little guys to climb in and out and the back of the building is open on the bottom half for lots of fun play. Oh, the fun things you can do with cardboard boxes! This big box of candy is literally that-made out of a cardboard box! The cardboard has been cut, bent, hot glued and painted to look like a huge box of candy. The candy paper “holders” are made out of coffee filters and are glued to holes in the bottom of the box for a fun toss game. The candies include two chocolate kisses, a milk chocolate candy with a white chocolate swirl on top, a dark chocolate candy with a swirl on top, a light pink conversation heart with “BE MINE” on it, and a lavender conversation heart with “I (heart) U” on it. The box itself measures approximately 2&1/2 feet tall by a little over 2 feet wide. The game leans back at a about a 45 degree angle to allow for better tossing luck! Doing the Fun Fest Guessing jars gave me the idea to do this for my guys’ school Valentine’s parties! Especially my oldest-” Mom, if I guess the right number can I have it?!!!!!” I cleaned off a jar in the recyclables, sanded the lid a bit with a sanding bar, and decorated it! These tiny valentines hearts and lips were from some Valentine confetti that I’ve had for a while, and I just used elmer’s glue to make the glitter heart and then to glitter the rest of the top of the lid. I attached the little lips along the rim with a bit of hot glue from a glue gun, filled it with chocolate Hershey’s Kisses and it was ready to go! Oh, I did have to count them! These Fun Fest Guessing jars were a blast to make. I recycled several types of jars and made some for boys and some for girls. One has a pink dotty pin cushion on top surrounded by a hot pink ribbon and a multi colored dotted pink ribbon with a pretty pink hydrangea silk flower pin on top, another girly one has an orange painted top with lime green ric-rac trim and a button and bead hot glued to the top to give it a little height! The largest jar with the cork top has the word “Almonds” spelled out in square letter beads attached with a bit of glue from a glue gun, the “tag” is added to be able to give the jar and contents as a gift if the winner wants (though it’s going to be awfully hard not to eat them!). The boys have a guessing jar with a spider web lid and several spiders climbing up to get into it, a “Monster Blood” jar (we LOVE these series of kids books!), and a jar with eyeballs all over the lid that is filled with the fun stick to the walls kind of eyeballs (these are definitely NOT edible!). The jar with the Hershey’s kiss atop it (it is a real one-just attached with a glue dot or two) can be for anyone! This couch just about made it to the curb. I was about to toss it out, when my husband said “Can’t you just iron something on it?” “Hmmmm,” I thought, “I think I can!” I had already tried making a vinyl “slipcover” but couldn’t figure out how to keep it in place, so I bagged that idea. Using my husband’s brilliant idea, I made a new slipcover (one that could be ironed). Then, after I was finished I ironed on this heat bond stuff (basically a double sided fusible webbing) to the wrong side of the fabric. After it was in place and cooled off I peeled off the paper backing, positioned the slipcover as perfectly and snugly as possible (I used a staple gun to affix the material to the bottom of the couch) then I ironed it right onto the couch. The lady at the fabric store said she didn’t know if it would work or not-but it did! It’s holding up to three active boys (and a Daddy) and looks 100% better! Next, I’m going to tackle our kid sized chair-they just love the kid sized furniture. I refashioned this small women’s turtleneck (green!) for an adorable 4 year old and paired it with a sweet pair of pants with floral embroidery to coordinate (not green!). The pants are made with an elastic waistband for easy on and off and all seams are finished using a serger. The flowers on the pants are worked using a lazy daisy stitch and french knot stamens, the viney pattern is made using a modified stem stitch. The coordinating fun springy hat is also hand embroidered with a similar floral pattern using soft turquoise, sage green, coral and light tawny brown coordinating colors. These fun New Year’s Hats were made of scraps of wool felt and fabric. The “Happy New Year” was written on in Elmer’s glue and then glitter was shaken on. The noisemakers are recycled cans spiced up with beads, scrapbooking paper, ribbon, chenille balls, small round mirrors, faux jewels, buttons, ribbon, and recycled thread spools, all put together with a hot glue gun. The key is to have the can opener that detaches the lid from the can completely-the lid and the can are also left dull (not razor sharp!) when using this type of can opener. Put beads, beans, rice or whatever you want inside the cans, then hot glue the top right back on! Or, hot glue another can inside the first one for a variety of fun looks! These noisemakers were a hit-I also used some elmers glue and glitter to put the child’s first initial on their very own noisemaker. Not the crafty type? Or you’d like a special gift for a new mom? This little wedding dress is intended for lots of fun pretend play! The dress was fashioned out of scraps left over from the cutting down of an old wedding dress. The bodice of this dress is actually made of one of the former dress’s cap sleeves, the front body of the dress is made up of scraps of wonderfully heavy satin, pieced together vertically in the front. The back of the dress has lots of elastic gatherings under the arms and on the back top to hold the little dress up, and allow for lots of different little girls sizes! The back bottom of the dress is made up of horizontally placed scrap satin, with the back bow from the original wedding gown, and the “train” is made up of a lighter, filmier, satin.
