Pink and Brown-Elephants?!

This baby gift set includes three hand made personalized baby bibs, a coordinating box, notecard and original canvas.

The canvas was done to match baby Emerson’s pink and brown bedding from Restoration Hardware. Baby Emerson has a soft pink and brown elephant mobile in her crib and that’s what inspired this canvas! In the canvas a mommy and baby elephant are holding trunks as they are give each other a flower. The elephants stand on a field of flowers that has the baby’s birth information “hidden” in it. The canvas is done in rich browns and many shades of pink to coordinate with the baby’s room.

Three bibs are done in stripes, dots, and a soft pink and all have personalized hand embroidered stitching. These fabrics were picked to coordinate with the baby’s bedding and room colors also. The multi colored dotted bib has “Emerson” hand embroidered in a wrapped back stitch, the striped fabric has the letter “E” done in a multitude of french knots, and the soft pink bib has baby Emerson’s monogram done in a stem stitch.

The coordinating box makes use of soft pink and brown card stock with hand embroidered  dark brown french knots on the warm pink card stock for added flair. The fun font (Gigi on MS Word) shows off Emerson’s full name on the keepsake box.

Emerson’s monogrammed personalized note card is done with a soft pink satin ribbon wrapped in a stripey effect on dark brown card stock. Emerson’s monogram is done in a warm brown and set on start white card stock in the card’s center.

The fun thing about all of these baby items is that they are useful (fancy bibs-can’t the bib be just as sweet as the dress?!), and can serve more than one purpose (the box makes a beautiful gift presentation and then can be displayed in the baby’s room and used to keep all those precious little keepsakes in!), and the card with the givers best wishes presents another wall art opportunity (or scrapbook addition!). The fact that the baby’s birth information is slightly “hidden” allows for the growth of the baby into a child who will still love that she has personalized artwork with her name on it-but doesn’t feel that it’s too “babyish” because the baby information is not too obvious.

Keepsake Box and Mini Blanket for Baby Lyla’s Christening

The personalized keepsake box is made to hold all of those precious little things from baby Lyla’s Christening. The outside lid of the box gives Lyla’s full name and the date of the Christening, and is framed in the same beautiful champagne silk as the mini blanket inside of it. The interior lid has a small puffy pocket with an “L” for Lyla embroidered on it’s center, the pocket can hold small treasures and hold them securely due to the white satin ribbon closure. The middle of the lid holds an accordion album all set for mommy and daddy to add photos and hand written memories of Lyla’s special day and is alto held in place by a white satin ribbon tie. The accordion album is personalized with Lyla’s full name, christening information and has titles on each page for mommy and daddy to record special guests who attend her Christening, gifts that she receives, information about the minister, the church, her godparents and even the Christening party-with plenty of room for favorite photos. The right side of the interior lid has a mini memory board made of the champagne silk (showing off it’s shiny satiny side) and white satin ribbons on the diagonal. The ribbons are held in place with champagne colored french knots. This mini memory board is the perfect size for small cards, photos or little mementos of Lyla’s special day. The bottom part of the box is filled with a soft cushiony champagne padding-oh, the luxury! The left side of the bottom of the box holds an invitation to Lyla’s Christening and will hold other special cards received. The Christening invitation is held in place by a champagne colored ribbon. The middle of the bottom of the box has two more champagne ribbons-for other small items that Lyla may receive such as a silver rattle or fork and spoon. The right side of the bottom portion of the box holds the special mini blanket made especially for Lyla.

This mini blanket is made of a light shantung silk-the front is the slightly nubby textured side and the back is the satiny smooth side. The champagne color is intended to coordinate with baby Lyla’s great grandmother’s christening gown. The mini blanket has Lyla’s monogram embroidered in a stem stitch in the center of the blanket. A stem stitch frames the outer edges of the blanket and the interior of the framing shows off a multitude of flowers done in varying shades of champagne-from ivory, light brown, a khaki and even a slight pink champagne. The flowers are worked using the lazy daisy stitch, french knots, back stitches, wrapped back stitches, stem stitches,  among other hand crafted embroidery stitches. Mini Blanket, Baby Owl and Personalized box

This mini blanket and baby owl set were made especially for baby Anika. Anika’s mother loved the blue green fabric colors AND she loves owls! The mini blanket is framed in a wrapped backstitch of blue green and brown, the tree is done in a dark brown stem stitch with varying shades of  blue green and blue buds sprouting along the limbs. A mommy and baby owl look lovingly at each other as they perch on one of the branches. The owls are worked in soft shades of blues using split and straight stitching, their tummies are white and they each have a goldish brown beaks and black french knot eyes. The baby’s monogram is embroidered using french knots and centered under the tree. The front of the blanket is a soft white cotton and the backing is the same blue green and brown material that the body of the baby owl stuffed animal is done in. The baby owl stuffed animal has the baby’s first initial embroidered on her tummy and has coordinating blue eyes. This set also comes with a coordinating personalized box. The box lid has a brown felt tree on white paper, framed in the same material as the backing of the blanket with coordinating owls perched on the tree’s branches. Both the white paper and the material on the box lid are framed with a dark brown satin ribbon.  Baby Anika’s full name is printed out in a coordinating font in dark brown and centered below the tree.  This set (like any on my site) can be made in different colors or fabrics-check out the mini blankie and owl in brown! Please do keep in mind that all items are hand made and therefore one of a kind. No two items are exactly alike-they are all unique!  For your own personalized children’s items e-mail me at shannon@coffeycreationsforkids.com !

Valentine for Dad

Oh, those little hands! Great to show off on Daddy’s desk at work and eventually to bring out again and again to remember how little they once were!

Capturing the moment!

I do have the cutest little boys in the whole world, you know. Okay, I might be a little bit biased, but they ARE mine! If you look very closely you will see that little Leonard has a messy face-but I know my little guy and if  had said-here let mommy clean your face, he would have hopped down off the chair and run away as fast as those little legs would carry him! The first photo shows my fun note card of my littlest guy. Who doesn’t love getting letters? And hand made personalized ones?!!

I have seriously dabbled in photography for many years and have always had trouble with red eye, lighting, and camera speed. Here are a few things that I’ve figured out through trial and error, and I must share for all you moms (or anyone out there taking photos of children!!) because nothing brings a bigger smile to my face than seeing photos of my little guys!

Red Eye: The red eye I finally figured out you could get rid of by using natural lighting or a flash that you can attach to your camera. The point and shoots or even the nicer cameras (SLR) with the attached flash almost always give you red eye-the flash is just too close to the camera lens. You don’t need a big fancy one, just one that is higher up than your attached one-Ritz makes a nice one for about 100$, it’s also small and easy to take on and off.

Camera speed: Unfortunately you just have to get a camera that actually takes the picture when you press the button-or you’ve lost the picture! You can take off the red eye setting and use natural lighting to lessen the delay somewhat, but then you’re limited to hoping for good lighting and not getting a blurry photo.

Lighting-This has been my latest major breakthrough! I’ve always preferred natural lighting and an attached flash (using the flash pointing up or to the side to bounce the light off of a wall or ceiling to diffuse the harsh flash light). The colors are just so much prettier- you don’t have the shadows and you can actually see the colors and things around your subject. But then I’ve been dependent on the weather-taking photos inside near a big window or door, or outside in cloudy conditions or overcast really make for the best shots (where you can actually see the color of your subjects eyes).

However, I’ve just recently discovered this Light Sphere thing- I can’t believe how well it works. It’s actually a flash diffuser-so the flash doesn’t give the harsh shadows and the colors are much more natural. Now I can take photos anywhere and not worry about the lighting at all-honestly it’s unbelievable to me. For years, I’ve struggled with this! Check it out at garyfong.com, this guy is a genius, I tell you! He even has tutorials on his site to tell you exactly how to use it, and photos to show you the difference with the flash, without, and with the Light Sphere. They also have a small one to use with point and shoots, but I haven’t tried that one out yet.

Anyway, that’s about it for now. Keep checking back to see what else I’ve discovered-I’ll be sure to share it! And e-mail me at shannon@coffeycreationsforkids.com for your own custom made children’s items!

Micro-Mini Accordion albums/books

These micro-mini albums and books are a delight to all who view them! Not only is this a great way to utilize those index prints that you get when you order photos, but they make great gifts. Tie them on a gift box for an extra surprise! They’re small enough that you could put several in your purse (or Dad’s wallet) to show off your little sweeties wherever you go! My little guys love them and carry them around to show their friends. Simply cut out the little index prints, attach to card stock, bend accordion style to make the accordion album, or cut several mini “pages”, bend in the middle and secure with a staple. Decorate with ribbon, adhesive ribbon (to make the book have a “spine”), buttons -whatever you feel like! For your own custom paper products/art e-mail me at shannon@coffeycreationsforkids.com !

Lyla Rabbit and Book Set

The Tale of Lyla Rabbit was inspired by the real baby Lyla before she was even born! Lyla’s mother and father picked out fun bunny bedding and loved all Beatrix Potter things. I started by creating some original artwork to go with baby Lyla’s room (click here to see the canvas), and then the inspiration hit! Why not write a story about a girl bunny rabbit?!  Meet Lyla Rabbit and read her very own story! Lyla Rabbit just wants to collect enough flowers to make a ring for her head. However, she is sidetracked by a yellow cat and a stone rabbit. To view and read the Lyla Rabbit Book in its entirety click here. And then, of course, baby Lyla had to have her very own Lyla Rabbit! Lyla Rabbit  is hand made from a soft light brown furry material. Her eyes, nose and mouth are hand embroidered using a darker brown embroidery floss. Lyla Rabbit comes with a pink cape that has hand embroidered flower accents worked using silk ribbon embroidery and regular floss embroidery. An “L” is embroidered in french knots on the top right side of the cape. The cape also has a white satin ribbon tie to allow it to be taken on and off. A basket for picking up Jane Magnolia blossoms and for carrying strawberries also comes with Lyla Rabbit and has a pretty pink ribbon adorning it. The basket comes with pink flower petals with hand painted stamens and four “rather large”  hot pink strawberries with green accents and tops. Lyla Rabbit even has her own mini version of “The Tale of Lyla Rabbit” book. Click here to see the Lyla Rabbit mini blanket, too! Lady Bug! Knee Socks/Hair Clip/Handpainted Box

Who doesn’t love ladybugs?! And “Ladybug Girl”! I saw this book and just loved it-a little girl out to prove that she is not too little. The knee socks each have a hand made ladybug with embroidery detailing, a little hair clip to match, and of course a hand painted personalized box to store everything in! Oh, I’m already thinking of how much fun it would be to make a ladybug tutu, shirt (LBG on it, of course), lady bug wings, how about a fun stuffed dog named Bingo like LBG’s?! Too many fun things to do and not enough time! A mom told me how much she loved knee socks for her daughter instead of tights-easier up and down for pottying and they don’t sag (myself having three boys, I had no idea…). Thanks mom (Debbie)! Hope Samantha loves her lady bug fun stuff! Email me at shannon@coffeycreationsforkids.com for your own custom kids creations!
